52 of us boarded the coach at Waterlooville for our trip westwards towards Swanage and another rambler from Bath joined us at Corfe Castle. Three walks were on offer:
The longer distance of 12.5 miles and the middle distance walk of 7.5 miles started at the National Trust Visitor Centre at Corfe Castle.
Those on the shorter walk of 5 miles started their walk at Knoll Beach Visitor Centre.
This year the numbers for each walk were roughly equal.
We hope everyone who came on the outing had a great day. Thank you to our leaders for three lovely walks.

15 people attended the map reading course on Saturday 8 October at Rowlands Castle Parish Hall. The course was led by Gill Winchurch with the assistance of David Nixon and Tony & Wendy Harrison.
The morning was devoted to the basics of map reading – the symbols used on maps, grid references, using a compass with a map, contours, etc... then the use of a map to prepare a route-card for a walk in Havant Thicket.
In the afternoon we moved to the Thicket and started by counting the number of (double) paces we each took to cover a measured 100m. This is useful for accurately finding the location of the next waymark on your route, the distance from one waymark to the next having been recorded on the route-card prepared earlier.
We took it in turns to lead legs of the route, comparing the features we encountered on the ground with those that we had anticipated from and recorded on the route-card. We all got back to our starting point, which was the object of the exercise.
It was generally agreed that the course had been very informative and that it had helped participants to develop the confidence to lead walks on the programme. We were all very appreciative of the accomplished way that Gill had designed and led the course.
